Anti-Pornography Action Kit

How you can play a major role in ridding your town of pornography.

INTRODUCTION

There are many forms of media in which pornography is produced, from magazines, videos, movies at cinemas, TV stations, Cable TV, etc. The best place to start ridding your town of porn is to oppose magazines sold in stores. Once a success campaign on porn magazines is completed further progress on removing porn in other media can be more easily developed.

There are many aspects to building a successful city or county-wide anti-porn campaign. Coast Family Association will provide behind the scenes work and leadership for any small group of 3 to 5 people who want to initiate an anti-porn campaign in their town.

Mentioned below is the First Stage, INSPECTION which you will need 3-5 people. The Last Stage, RESOLUTION, you will need to recruit as many people as possible from church, work, and community to commit to phone calling, letter writing, and possible picketing of a store, once a store is targeted. The easiest way to do this is with the attached sign-up petition.

STAGE 1: Inspection

RESOURCE: Store Pornography Inspection Form

The first step to ridding your town of pornography is INSPECTION. Before any attempt is made to organize people in your town to combat pornography you need to know ALL possible locations of where it is sold. A thorough inspection of all convenience stores, grocery stores, gas stations, book stores, and department stores throughout your city or county is vital.

In this first step no other action is taken. There is no confrontation of the manager, complaining, or requesting the magazine be removed. The purpose is only to record information about the availability of pornography in your community. Each store's magazine/pornography area needs to be visited in order to determine which pornographic magazines are sold there.

Pornographic magazines will contain either erotic pictures of women for male consumers, men for female consumers, or of women for lesbians or of men for homosexual men or may be non-specific but any depiction of naked people in erotic poses are pornographic. Hard core pornographic magazines depict people being abused, tortured, mutilated, bloodied, with animals, with young teen-age looking adult men/women, or other sickening displays. You do not have to determine which are hard-core vs. soft-core porn unless the magazine is not common or not listed on the inspection form.

A common place for pornography in convenience stores is behind the check-out counter and thus you may have to ask the clerk which pornographic magazines are available. Most stores will have 2/3rds of the front cover of pornographic magazines covered with a board. A quick perusal through different magazines that you think might be pornographic might be necessary other than the mainline porn magazines listed on the provided inspection form. Adult bookstores, X-rated theaters, adult arcades, etc. do not need to be visited but the name and location needs to be reported on an inspection form.

THE INSPECTION FORM

If the store sells pornography fill out the inspection form. Use one form per location. Fill out one line per magazine with a short description. If they ask what you are doing, just say that you are getting some information for a friend or "I was just curious what magazines you sold" say thank you and walk out when you're done. Ask for the name of the manager and their phone number. When you enter the store only have one form in hand folded in half and open it when writing. Don't use a clip board or a large pad.

After you have completed 5 to 10 inspection forms or every 1 to 2 weeks mail them back to us. And if you have any questions as always don't hesitate to call us or your coordinator.

Last Stage: Resolution

RESOURCE: Anti-Pornography Campaign Sign-Up Petition
Petition is in a Adobe Acrobat File (.PDF).  Free Adobe Reader Download.

The stages between inspection and resolution are behind the scenes work that leaders in the Coast Family Association will do, including confronting the management of those stores selling pornography, and other strategic planning that takes someone with experience in similar matters to do.

Your group of 3-5 people will at the start of inspection or shortly thereafter start recruiting for volunteers to commit to making phone calls, writing letters, and possible picket a store if necessary (last resort). The Anti-Pornography Campaign Volunteer Sign-up Sheet should be circulated to as many locations as possible, such as church groups, civic groups, neighbors, and friends at work. The object is to get as many people as possible to assist in this final stage of Resolution. The question of how to organize a phone calling or letter writing campaign will be left to later material.

CONCLUSION

If you wish to rid your community of the scourge of pornography it is fairly straight-forward thing to do. By working with the Coast Family Association we can make the whole process accurate and planned out in detail so that volunteer's time will not be wasted on things that have no impact.
